RURAL ACTION IN SOCIAL EMANCIPATION

Empowerment of rural poor, single women through sheep rearing project
Supported by: Stitching KOOK
Year: 2021
The village people are mostly depending on agricultural labor and as a factory labors. Further they are confronted with unemployment due to several factors. Hence they are forced to depend on land lords and money lenders in order to fulfill their felt needs. They have to borrow at higher rates of interest and repay whenever demanded. Other wise they have to leave their children at the disposal of these wealthy people to rear their cattle or work as laborers in their farms or yards. Thus the poor people in the target area are exploited physically, socially and mentally. As they cant feed them selves , their children becoming burden to them. So the performing of child marriages are increasing. As regards help education and other facilities, these activities are only in the budding stage.
Unfortunately men are habituated for alcohol consumption and certain other chronic weaknesses. Following deliberate negligence on the part of men as primary functionaries of family maintenance, women are forced to bear the unpleasantness and strive hard to get their children educated. It is in this context that the poor women have chosen themselves to be laborers. Still their luck is so bad that they are not paid in terms of minimum wages act.
Women are the first person in the family to suffer for providing minimum food facilities to the children and persons in the family. Corona crisis makes the situation much tough and challenging. Mostly the poor women and single women are the victims of this situation. The women approached our organization for the for helping hands to fight with hunger. So we have arranged a meeting and had a long discussion in the point of empowerment and the ways to empowerment.
-
To develop and provide employment opportunities to the rural poor women,
-
To enhance the family income of the target group women,
-
To eradicate exploitation imposed by the rich persons and higher caste people,
-
To take such constructive steps as may promote the living standards of women and their families,
-
To form Women Self Help Groups and introduce "Thrift & Credit" habit among the women members.
30 women beneficiaries were selected and three sheep were distributed After 6 months the grown-up Sheep’s will be sold out in the market at the price higher than the purchasing rate. The beneficiaries will utilize the outcome of the sale deeds to buy new and more number of Sheep’s towards the continuity and viability of the project.
