RURAL ACTION IN SOCIAL EMANCIPATION

Projects
Diary Units for Rural People
Supported by: Castricum Helpt Muttathara and Stitching KOOK
Year: 2017- 2018
The women identified in the project area are enduring extremely challenging living conditions. They are encountering various difficulties from both the society and their own family members. Some of these women work as household servants or caretakers in the homes of landlords, tending to animals and agricultural fields. Others engage in the laborious task of collecting firewood to sell in the market, using the earnings to purchase food for their children, who often go hungry until their mothers return home at 5 o'clock to prepare a meal. Additionally, some women work as cleaners and sweepers in hotels, government or private company officers' houses, and local businesses. Unfortunately, they are compensated very little each month, which is insufficient to adequately support their families. As a result, various socio-economic challenges have arisen in their lives, preventing them from being able to send their children to school. Instead, the children are often sent to work as laborers in agricultural fields and as household servants to contribute financially. Furthermore, some families struggle to find consistent work throughout the year, leaving these women in dire living conditions due to the societal problems they face.
RAISE has pinpointed 30 beneficiaries to receive Dairy support. The primary criteria for selecting these beneficiaries include extreme poverty, previous experience in rearing and maintaining dairy units, a demonstrated interest in participating in training programs, and a willingness to join self-help groups. The beneficiaries underwent a one-week training program focusing on the maintenance of dairy units and the distribution of dairy, followed by a 15-day training in producing value-added products derived from milk and its by-products.
