RAISE in regular communication with the local government doctor to monitor the health of the community. During our discussions, we asked the doctor about the spread of diseases and the distribution of medications to the local residents. It was during one of these conversations that the doctor alerted us to a severe waterborne disease affecting the children in the rural areas. This prompted us to launch an investigation to identify the source of the illness.
Upon further exploration, we discovered that many parents had mentioned that their children were spending increasingly more time at school than at home. This piqued our curiosity, and we decided to visit the local government schools. Upon arrival, we were struck by a glaring issue - the water supply was visibly impure, particularly during the rainy season. The water from local households and panchayats contained a high concentration of mud, leaves, sand, and mosquitoes, which were contributing to the spread of waterborne diseases among the children.
Furthermore, the school management informed us about a concerning trend - an uptick in the dropout rate as a result of frequent illnesses caused by the contaminated water supply. This revelation served as the catalyst for our intervention project.
